Driving back to Manhattan, I tried hard to control the rising wave of paranoia that threatened to engulf me.

Did Darryl Jackson really attack another woman in the park that night?

Was his story true about finding my belongings after the attack on me when he found me unconscious?

Why did Dr. Spitz go to see Darryl Jackson in prison just before he was murdered himself?

Why did the new witness, Phyllis Lachman, see someone running away from the Cheryl Lee Barrett murder scene wearing a New York Yankee baseball cap – the same kind of baseball cap I’d begun seeing in my dreams on the head of my own attacker.

And – most importantly of all – if someone else, not Darryl Jackson, had really attacked me in the park that night, then he could still be out there. Which meant he might have attacked other victims too.

Maybe Cheryl Lee Barrett, as I now suspected.

But possibly other women in similar crimes over the years that no one had ever linked together.
